The student-athletes of Daytona State College have committed monthly to making a big impact in the lives of the students at Westside Elementary. The after school program at Westside Elementary works closely with the program Food Brings Hope to ensure that children have food to eat and a safe place to go after school. The Falcon student-athletes have the opportunity to share in the unique program.
Each month the athletes spend the afternoon with the students. They spend an hour outside engaging in physical activity. Whether it is a kickball game, jumprope, basketball, or a game of catch the athletes commit their time to making a difference in the students' lives. After their recreation time, the Daytona State student-athletes spend the remainder of their time in the classroom with the students working on their homework.
It is hopeful that these young students of Westside Elementary see Daytona State student-athletes as mentors and role models for what they too can accomplish through hardwork and commitment to excellence.
