Daytona State College, ranked #4 in the NJCAA, defeated Florida Southwestern State College 80-61 to win their 18th consecutive game and improve to 20-2, 8-0 in Citrus Conference play.
Florida Southwestern led 17-12 with 9:05 to play in a sluggish first half dominated by aggressive defense on both sides. Daytona then went on a 21-10 run to close out the first half and take a 6 point lead at the half, 33-27. Daytona continued their run in the second half limiting FSW to just 8 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half to take a commanding 26 point lead with 9:22 left in the game, 61-35.
The Daytona defense again was the difference maker forcing 19 turnovers and finishing with 10 steals.
Ryan Bewley led Daytona with 18 points and 4 rebounds on 8-9 made field goals. Isaiah Dorceus finished with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Tyrese Lacey had 12 points, 4 assists and 2 steals. Noah Mendy 11 points and 4 rebounds. Jaylin Payne 6 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Eddie Placer 7 points and 3 rebounds.
