The Daytona State Men's Soccer team kicked off their two-game trip to South Carolina with a solid 2-0 victory over the USC Sumter Fire Ants on Friday afternoon. The win moves the Falcons to a 4-1-1 record for the season, as they remain on track for a strong start to their campaign.
The match was competitive throughout, with the Falcons holding a slight edge in shots, 15-14, showing that neither side was willing to back down. However, it was Daytona State that found the finishing touch when it counted.
The first breakthrough came in the 48th minute when Kayoum M'Bamba found the back of the net following an excellent assist from Joachim Kyei. M'Bamba's calm finish after a well-timed through ball gave the Falcons the lead, setting the tone for the rest of the match.
In the 59th minute, Daytona State extended their advantage with a penalty kick from Josue Youta. The Fire Ants had no answer to the Falcons' clinical finishing, as Youta slotted his shot home to make it 2-0.
On the defensive side, sophomore goalkeeper Matthew McCall was crucial in preserving the clean sheet. McCall made two key saves—one in each half—that kept USC Sumter at bay and maintained Daytona State's lead. His performance between the posts was a vital part of the Falcons' strong showing.
With the victory, the Falcons are now 4-1-1 and will next face USC Lancaster on Sunday at noon. The team will look to build on their strong performance as they continue their road trip in South Carolina.
