A 2019 graduate of Viera High School, Martinez brings strong credentials to Daytona State. He finished his high school cross country career with a 16:17 5k time, good for 12th at the Florida State Cross Country Championships. In his senior spring track season, he went 9:39 in the 3200 meter, setting a personal record at the 2019 Florida State Track meet that saw many delays in the two day meet. He set a 1600 meter personal record of 4:32.55, winning his conference title. A top prospect out of high school, the Falcons were fortunate to attract him in only year 2 of the program.
Outlook for 2019 per Wilson: Andy has the ability to run beyond Daytona State. He will be looked upon to run each race to the best of his ability. I think he will adapt well to the 8k distance and will help our other top guys reach their goals as well. I don’t think there is a reason to set a goal for Andy, because I know he sets his own.
