Daytona State men's cross country finished in the top spot among junior colleges Friday night at the Florida Intercollegiate meet in Jacksonville. The Falcons finished eighth out of eleven teams, and only three point back from University of South Florida. The squad was led by freshman Caden Baker who crossed the line in 26:37, and closely behind in the Falcon #2 spot was Jeffrey Belizaire with time of 26:43. Two more freshmen, Hayden Clark and Luke (Michael) Brewer finished in 27:02 and 27:03 in their first collegiate 8000 meter race. "Its always a challenge for the freshmen to come out of high school having run 5000 meters to have to step up to race 3000 meters further, but these guys handled it well,"commented head coach Judy Wilson. The Falcons had a gap of only 24 seconds between their top four and will be searching for a fifth man to step up as the season unfolds. "Our fifth man could be any one of our other seven guys, and it could change from meet to meet. It will be interesting to see who steps up." Wilson said. Finishing out the Falcon line up were sophomores Nathan Henning and Spencer Lawrence crossing the line at 28:13 and and 28:35 respectively, and Julian Scanlon and Samuel Otero. The Falcons will take this coming weekend off to get ready for the Embry Riddle Invite on September 13th.
