At the FCSAA Region 8 championships Friday, October 24th, four Falcons earned All Region honors by placing in the top seven of the field. All four are freshmen and finished in the top five of the race. Only one runner from another team slipped into the top five. Individual champion and Runner of the Year for Region 8, Hayden Clark, covered the 8000 meter distance in 26:08. His teammate, Jeffrey Belizaire, trailed by only five seconds, running 26:13. Luke Brewer would cross the line in third with a time of 26:25 and Caden Baker would close in at 26:35. With a gap of only 27 seconds seperating these runners, the Falcons would eventually score 24 points to take their seventh team title in eight years. The program started in 2018 and has dominated the region since 2020. Daytona State has now had 24 earn All Region honors, and Clark makes the sixth Falcon to win the individual title in the past six years, joining Andy Martinez (2020, 2021) Sebastian Hernandez (2022), Jared Falchook (2023) and Evan Casterline (2024).
Coach Judy Wilson is now in her eighth season and reflected on the record. "Every year we have tried to bring guys in who want to run, who love to run, who can dig deep when it matters. There is that expectation for the program, but also as an individual to strive to become your best. We have been lucky to get good people to come to DSC who can run. At the end of the day, you have to be someone who needs to be needed, to be counted on." Next up for the Falcons is the NJCAA National Championship in Ft Dodge, IA on November 8th.
