Women's Golf Captures Region 8/Southeast District Championship
The Daytona State Falcon Women's Golf team has won the NJCAA Southeast District Championship, securing the Falcons' spot in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament. The Falcons shot a 4-under par 288 in the first round and a 3-over par 295 in the second round of the tournament, finishing 1-under par (583) on the par 73 layout at Duran Golf Club in Viera, FL. Eastern Florida State College, who came in second place, shot 17-over par (601) and Seminole State College came in third place with 22-over par (606).
In the first round, the Falcons were led by Tylar Whiting and Cambree Hodge who shot a 4-under par 69 and 2-under par 71, respectively. These scores would give the Falcons a 4-stroke lead heading into the second round of the tournament.
In the second round, the Falcons shot a 3-over par (295) in very windy conditions. Hodge, again, shot a 2-under par 71 despite the windy conditions, and Samantha Paradise shot an even par 73, improving by 1 stroke from the day before.
The Falcons shot their season low in the first round with their 4-under par performance. Whiting had a career low of 4-under par also in the first round. Hodge shot back-to-back college career lows with her back-to-back 2-under par rounds of 71. Hodge captured the individual honors while Whiting and Paradise finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Other top finishers for the Falcons included Rachel Gomez who shot 74-77 and finished 7th and Kalia Polete who shot 76-76 and finished in 10th place.
With this win, the Falcons will head to Finney County, Kansas to play in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament May 12-15, 2025.
