The Daytona State women's cross country team is heading to Richmond, Virginia to compete in the 2024 NJCAA National Cross Country meet on Saturday, November 9th, following a strong performance at the 2024 Region 8 Champoionship. The Falcons finished just 20 points shy of the top spot, securing second place out of ten teams in Tallahassee. Their impressive showing was marked by a tighltly packed group of five runners, finishing in eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, and sixteenth place, with only 32 seconds separating their first and fifth runners. Freshman Tiffany Cox led the Falcons, with her teammates closely behind, as the next three runners crossed the finish line within just eight seconds of each other. The 2024 squad is different from other Falcon squads in that there has not been a true front runner, but rather a tight pack, which can be very helpful in cross country. The top seven running for the Falcons include freshmen Cox, Cheyenne Hulsey, Brianna Crawford, Maya Horel, combined with sophomores Francesca Azzollini, Kaitlyn Harding, and Sofia Azzollini. "Our goal for Saturday is simple. We want each runner to perform at their highest level and run their season best. That is what a championship is all about. This group has been one of best that I have had the honor to coach. They have worked very hard and improved so much over the course of the season. It's been fun to watch," stated head coach Judy Wilson. The Falcons are ranked 23rd in the latest national poll, but with solid performances, they could crack the top ten. The Daytona State Women's Cross Country team is ready to take on the competition and showcase their hard-earned progress and resilience.
