Daytona State women's cross country dropped one place to #6 in the second USTCCCA coaches poll this week. The Falcons are coming off a strong showing at the Seminole Invitational, finishing 150 points ahead of the next junior college team. The Falcons have been lead by Emma Turner, who was the first junior college runner to cross the finish line in a race dominated by NCAA Division 1 runners. Her efforts earned her FCSAA Runner of the Week. "The women's race was a 6000 meter distance, which is 1000 meters further than all of our other races. Our team handled it well and we know that all of them can race a lot faster," commented Coach Judy Wilson, now in her eighth season with Daytona State College. The women's team will need to decrease the time between their first and fifth runners if they are to reach the podium at the national meet in mid November. "This team is a hard working bunch with a great attitude, and I would not put it past them to break into that top three in November," commented Wilson. The Falcons will race in Muskegon, Michigan on October 11th when they meet up with #4 Muskegon.
