The Daytona State women's cross country team traveled to Muskegon, Michigan this past weekend in search of cooler weather and faster times. They got both. The Falcons finished fifth out of sixteen teams and were the top junior college team, finishing just ahead of host #4 ranked Muskegon. Freshman Emma Turner lead the way once again with an 18th place finish with a new personal record of 18:58. Turner would finish as the third junior college runner to cross the line. "I didn't think this was a particularly easy course. The weather was great for us, but there were two prominent hills on the course and it was a challenge. This was a good test for the national course in Iowa and such a great experience for our student-athletes. Sophomore Brianna Crawford, a former Daytona State soccer player now in only her second year of cross country, busted out a 19:18 for the 5k course, which is a one minute and fourteen second personal record. Freshman Kennedy Flores had a breakout performance finishing as DSC's third runner for the first time and ran a personal best of 19:36, taking of 1:37 from her previous best. Sophomore Tiffany Cox also ran a personal best by 21 seconds, finishing in 20:27. The fifth and final scorer for the Falcons was Keria Galan, running cross country for the first time ever and is 25 years older than her teammates. Galan returned to school for a career change and decided to run for the Falcons after running the Boston Marathon last spring. "Keria found her speed this past weekend. This is what we were looking for and I think she has even more speed for the Region meet Oct 24th," commented Coach Judy Wilson. Other Falcons runners setting season or personal bests were Maya Horel in 2049, Jennifer Gonzalez, running in her first race of the season, finished in 20:56, Cheyenne Hulsey running a personal best of 20:58, Kylee Lokensgard in 21:12 and Maria Phillips in 21:40.
