Daytona State will compete in the Men's and Women's NJCAA National Half Marathon Championships in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Tuesday. The 13.1 mile race is on local roads and bike paths in Fort Dodge, and finishes at the same site as the Cross Country Nationals held this past Saturday. Competing for the Falcons for the first and only time this fall is sophomore Francesca Azzollini, who used up her cross country eligibility last year. Joining her will be Keria Galan, Daytona State's sole non traditional student. Galan, 47 years old, placed anywhere from fifth runner to tenth runner on the Falcon squad this fall. A Boston Marathon finisher, Galan will use her strength for longer races in the half marathon distance. The rest of the women's roster is coming off of the snowy cross country nationals held Saturday. The Falcons look to Azzollini and Galan to join Emma Turner, Brianna Crawford, Maya Horel, and Cheyenne Hulsey to run as a group in the early miles of the race. "This is a challenging course around miles six to nine, and we are looking to help each other out there. Once past the nine mile mark, we will need to push it on the flatter last few miles." Coach Judy Wilson commented. Team scores are calculated using the placing from the first three runners.
