The Daytona State men's cross country team took the top spot among junior colleges Friday at the Seminole Invitational at Florida State University. The Falcons scored 440 points, 300 less than the next junior college. In cross country, the lower score wins. Daytona State's top four runners, all freshmen, were Caden Baker, Hayden Clark, Jeffrey Belizaire, and Michael (Luke) Brewer finished within 16 seconds of each other. Freshman William Hernandez and sophomore Nikolas Boone were fifth and sixth for the Falcons and were only 40 seconds behind the front pack. "This was a good step in the right direction for us. Our first four ran together through 4000 meters very nicely and we will work on pulling our fifth, sixth and seventh up closer to them," commented Coach Judy Wilson. On a very hot and humid morning, the Falcons would end up placing 17th out of 34 teams. The field consisted of several NCAA Divsion I teams including winner Georgia, University of North Florida in second, and Florida State in third. The Falcons finished ahead of thirteen NCAA Division I or II schools, and four of the Region 8 teams that the Falcons will meet on October 24th. Next up for the Falcons is the Jayhawk Invitational in Muskegon, Michigan on October 11th.
