Daytona State Stuns Titans with Seven-Run Seventh, Sweeps Doubleheader

Daytona State opened the doubleheader with a 9-4 victory over St. Petersburg College.
The Falcons struck early, plating two runs in the first inning as Azlynn Gomes connected on a two-run home run to score Juleah Patterson, who reached on a leadoff walk. Daytona State extended its lead in the third inning, scoring three runs. Patterson came around to score on a passed ball, before Alexa Edmands delivered an RBI single to bring home Gomes. Maggie Castaneda later added an RBI double to score Edmands and make it 5-0.
St. Petersburg got on the board in the third, but the Falcons responded with three more runs in the fourth inning to push the lead to 8-1. Ashley Bert and Nyree James each reached on singles, and Patterson followed with an RBI single to score Bert. Gomes then delivered a two-run double to bring home James and Patterson.
The Titans rallied with three runs in the fifth to cut into the deficit, but Daytona State added an insurance run in the sixth when Patterson drove in James, who led off the inning with a double, and held on the rest of the way.
Daytona State totaled 13 hits in the contest, led by strong performances from Patterson and Gomes. Patterson recorded three hits, scored three runs, and drove in two, while Gomes finished with three hits and four RBI, including a home run.

Daytona State completed the doubleheader sweep with a 9-8 comeback victory over St. Petersburg College.
St. Petersburg jumped out early, capitalizing on two walks and a hit by pitch to score three runs in the first inning. Daytona State got on the board in the third after loading the bases, as Gabby Giugliano was hit by a pitch to score Nyree James, followed by a sacrifice fly from Alexa Edmands to bring home Juleah Patterson. The Titans added a run in the bottom half of the inning to extend the lead.
Daytona State added another run in the fourth when Patterson drove in James to cut the deficit to 4-3, but St. Petersburg answered with two runs in the bottom half. The Titans added two more in the fifth to push the lead to 8-3.
Trailing by 5 entering the seventh, Daytona State mounted a six-run rally to take control. After two quick outs, Alexa Edmands singled to keep the inning alive, and Riley Makousky delivered a pinch-hit triple to drive in two runs. Ashley Bert reached on an error to bring home another run, and back-to-back singles from Jolie Perillo and Nyree James loaded the bases. Consecutive walks by Patterson and Azlynn Gomes forced in the tying and go-ahead runs.
Daytona State totaled 10 hits in the contest, highlighted by Makousky's clutch pinch-hit triple and multi-hit efforts from Aurielle Reavis and Gomes.
